Commenting on her medal winning performance Fiona says:
I'd gone in with the looming presence of Niamh Hunter (JK champion) starting 2 mins behind me, so the aim from the get go was hold her off as long as possible and then hang on for dear life. I hit one on a pure miracle (was a bit of a bingo control) then faffed about to 2 as I was struggling to decide which way round the marsh to go, a small mistake on the way to 4 stopping too early but eventually sorting myself out and got going again.
Niamh caught me at number 5 and then it was game on lungs maxing out to try and stay within sight of her which kept me going all throughout the elites rather heathery loop at the top of the hill. On the way to 15 I caught sight of someone that started quite a while in front of me which is only when it dawned on me that I must be having a pretty good run so after that it was fighting against my brain to not panic and ruin the good run in the last section.
I was slowed down a bit from being surrounded by people again which I found distracting. This I think lost me critical time to Megan (2nd place) who only got past me time wise in those last few controls in the forest.
Overall it was a really fun course with a good mix of terrains and different styles of orienteering with more traditional follow the contours in the open section, more touchy feely in the lower open section where there was vegetation everywhere and a bit of point and shoot later on in the woods.
