Fun and Adventure at Braidburn Valley Park (5/10/24)

Results and report from the event now available ...

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Braidburn Valley Park event on Saturday, 5th October!  We had nearly 100 participants of all ages and abilities, enjoying courses ranging from White to Light Green (including a Long Orange / Red).  The weather cooperated and the autumn colours were a pretty good backdrop.

We were pleased to see plenty of club-regulars as well as a good number of newcomer adults and families. Some of these were trying orienteering for the first time having heard about orienteering through our club development outreach activities and it sounds like we can look forward to seeing them again!  It was also great to welcome back the ESMS school orienteering club with around thirty pupils who all joined in with great enthusiasm. In addition, we had a guest appearance from a member of the Japanese team, Ryohei Sato – who blasted round the Light Green in an impressive way!

Results are now available in various formats:

Obviously a successful event can only happen through the efforts of quite a few club volunteers, whether planning and setting up the courses to providing support and encouragement throughout the day.  A huge thank you to:

  • Colin Ledlie – planner
  • William Ivory – organiser and computing
  • Katherine Ivory - co-organiser and publicity
  • Robin Galloway - computing
  • Paul Caban - organising kit, and collecting controls
  • Mairi Eades, Colin Inverarity, Colin Eades, Oleg Chepelin, Ann Haley – general on-the-day support, publicity, and control collecting

Our next come-and-try-it events will be on Saturday 12 Oct when we’ll be running FREE taster sessions for newcomers: Holyrood Park 9.30-11ish (alongside our club Parkrun marshalling volunteering), then Craigmillar Castle Park 1-3pm (part of the Family Forest Festival).  More information here; just turn up on the day. Hope to see you there!
