5th Sprintelope of 2024 in Buckstane, south Edinburgh ...
The 5th Sprintelope of the 2024 season takes place in Buckstane on Wednesday 8th May. Starts are between 6:30 - 7:30pm. Please sign up in advance on Race-Signup to guarantee a map, up to midnight on the Monday before the event. There should be enough maps for EOD (entry on the day) as well but it's always better to sign up before.

Location and Directions
The event is in the Buckstane area of Edinburgh. Registration / Start / Finish / Download location will be at 50 Buckstone Road, EH10 6UE

Public Transport options are as follows:
- Lothian Bus services 11 and 15 get you closest, but 4 and 400 are also nearby.
Car parking is on local streets. Please park responsibly without blocking any drives. Please also keep to the older part of the estate - Buckstone Gardens, Buckstone Avenue, and Buckstone Road up to where the other two roads meet it. Further into the estate along Buckstane Road is narrower and there's much less space to park.
Courses, Start and Finish
There will be a short and a long course, planned and organised by Lucy Ward and family. As courses cross main roads, all under-16s must be shadowed by an adult. (This is a requirement of our insurance.) Maps will be A4, 1:5000 scale. Paper will not be waterproof so please bring a polypocket / similar if wet.
Starts are betwen 6:30 - 7:30pm. Courses close at 8:30pm, so if you think you will be out a while, please consider starting early! Timing will be using SI Timing. Dibbers can be hired for free - please request when signing up - but there is a £30 charge if lost.
Courses are as follows (straight line distance):
- Short 3.3km
- Long 4.6km
Actual distance run will be considerably further than straight line distance. There will be SI controls at start and finish plus long/short course choice. All other controls will be marked with red and white tape, possibly also by flour on the ground.
When you have finished, please remember to download at the finish so we know you are back and don't end up sending out a search party for you. Results will be posted to the website when ready - this may not be on Wednesday evening though! You can view the Munro League for Sprintelopes here.

Safety
As typical for an urban environment, there are of course risks from dogs, dog mess, bikes, litter / broken glass, uneven surfaces and trip hazards such as steps.
There may be some rougher tracks in the woodland so wear appropriate footwear with decent grip for non-paved surfaces you may choose to encounter along the courses, and wear appropriate clothing for the conditions (including rain gear / sun protection if necessary). Given much of the course will be on roads / paths through woodland, clothing suitable for long grass, nettles and brambles should be worn, eg long socks.
Be mindful and considerate of other people and dogs that may be encountered around courses.
In extreme weather conditions, the event will be cancelled and participants notified via email / Twitter.
A first aid kit will be located at the Assembly point.
Competitors with existing high risk medical conditions will be asked in the event final details to notify the organisers of relevant information. This will be kept confidentially.
