A Question of Sport (and some other things) - Club Quiz Night

Our Club April social evening was a great success, with a Quiz Night at the Old Bell, organised by Mairi Eades.

Don’t worry if you missed out, I am hopeful that there will be plenty more to come. After not getting much “real” work done during the week, the quiz questions were finally all created and ready to go. The meal orders were in and it was time to get the show on the road. The Old Bell were lovely and welcoming with a big long table set for 20, think it is safe to say everyone enjoyed their meal. While many were fuelling their quiz brains, more interlopers and friends arrived then after a quick re arrange of the tables we were ready to get into quiz teams. After cobbling together some mixed up, hopefully even teams it was time to begin. “oh wait my laptop doesn’t have a HDMI slot…oh yeah I brought a converter…oh wait it doesn’t work…dad have you got a spare laptop with HDMI…yes here you go, gets it all set up…oh wait it doesn’t have Microsoft on it…dad have you got another spare laptop in your bag…yes…hurra its all working, Cinderella shall go to the ball and the INT quiz shall go ahead”

It wouldn’t be a quiz for orienteers without some map guessing so they all got stuck into the first round guessing some very zoomed in map extracts. The second round was a Spot-the-Interloper round (guess the odd one out) - these puzzled many.  Then back to orienteering with some general knowledge questions. The next two rounds produced some good laughs as it was time for some Interloper head to heads. First up we looked at parkrun PBs, many interlopers have some similar times but who has pipped who? Was it Pippa C or David E, Luke F or Ray W, Robin G or Max C?? Some may be waking up tomorrow in time for that 9.30 start aiming to get the answers changed!  Another form of head to head, this time with British and JK wins against each other. After racing against each other 26 times who has won the most out of Oleg or Murray??? Or out of Luke and James who have raced 12 times??  The answer to Luke versus James is currently at a draw so we look forward to watching the results in this upcoming season. The final quiz round was titled Interlopers on tour (guess the country from the pictures and which picture is false (but where is the false picture from). This one put everyone’s geography knowledge to the test.

It was time to tot up the scores, there were quite a range of scores on the doors but it was a team of Claire, Lucy, Colin and Joseph who was the most successful. Thanks to all who came and to the Old Bell for kindly hosting us, we will be back.
