FREE Map-Based Adventure! Come to the Spring Family Festival at Craigmillar Castle Park, Saturday 19 April
Looking for something active outdoors to do with the family over Easter weekend? Free orienteering activities will be on offer as part of the Spring Family Festival at Craigmillar Castle Park. Come along on Saturday 19 April (1-3pm, by the central playpark) to enjoy some family-friendly fun outdoors, organised for the local community by Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust.
Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust (ELGT) [HYPERLINK - https://www.elgt.org.uk/] hold regular community events and the first of this year is on Easter Saturday, 19 April, 1-3pm. Just come along to the woods next to the central playpark and join in the Spring Celebration – there will be circus skills, crafts, an egg hunt and a silent disco as well as introductory orienteering taster activities on offer. Everyone very welcome!
We will be offering FREE maps for introductory courses using the recently relaunched Craigmillar Castle Park permanent orienteering course. Come for a map-based adventure and try out one of several short courses to explore around the park from the main playground. Find the marker posts (many newly installed by ELGT this winter) in the right order – race if you want or just enjoy the challenge and some outdoors activity! Club volunteers will be around to help get you started with some basic skills and tell you more about how you can enjoy orienteering locally in Edinburgh as well as further afield.
Then on Sunday 20 April and Friday 25 April, Bridgend Farmhouse will have a film event for families, and free introductory orienteering maps will also be available for courses starting from there. See Bridgend Farmhouse website for more information on their events.
Future dates for your diary for more Family Festivals are Saturday 3 May and Saturday 7 June (all 1-3pm by the Playpark).
If you can’t make any of the events, you can download course maps for free.
