Craigmillar (Blackford) Winterlope, Mon 30 Jan - Sun 5 Feb
First Winterlope of 2023 runs from Monday 30th January to Sunday 5th February inclusive.
The first Winterlope of the year is at Craigmillar Park Golf Course,in the south of Edinburgh, planned by Lorna Eades. Typical golf course terrain - short grass, slightly longer grass, and plenty of copses and small bits of woodland to mix it up a bit. There's even a few contours!
Courses
Start Location: Observatory Car park, Blackford Hill, Edinburgh

Maps will be available to download using the links below - courses should be run, after dark only, any time between 30th January - 5th February inclusive.

If you know how it works and just want to find the courses, either:
- Scan the QR codes above, and follow the link
- In the app on your phone, hit 'Select Event'. Navigate to UK -> Scotland -> Edinburgh -> FWTN and Winterlopes.
Special notes:
- Your phone / watch may find the start inside the car park, so watch out for that!
- The Long course includes some doubled-up controls. This is a bit trickier to accommodate in Maprun but should work fine still – just run the course in the normal way and the app will register the control the second time but with the original control number. But don’t worry; we can sort out anything after as need be. If you get all the controls in the right order then your course will register as valid and extra control punching doesn’t matter at all.
- As ever, watch out for hazards including golf course equipment that might be out. There are some roped off areas for grass protection; look out for these.
- Make sure you ‘punch’ the Start and the Finish if you’re using Maprun. You get a sit-down at the end
