Free Taster Session! Come and try orienteering at Oriam Parkrun, Saturday 17 May
If you’re looking for a new outdoors activity and like a bit of mental as well as physical challenge, then orienteering could be for you! To find out more, come along for a free introductory session at the Heriot-Watt University campus on Saturday 17 May.
Interlopers and Edinburgh Southern Orienteering Clubs will be supporting Oriam Parkrun with club members staging a Volunteer Takeover, and alongside that, offering a taster experience. This could be ideal for Parkrunners looking for a fun warm-down activity, as well as anyone else who’d like some map-based adventure.
If you’re looking for a different type of run with the added dimension of some navigational challenge, this could be for you! Or if you’d just like to explore the campus grounds, you can walk or jog. Follow in the footsteps of the elite athletes during last summer’s World Orienteering Championships: the Heriot-Watt campus was the venue for fast and furious action for the Mixed Sprint Relay event.
Saturday sees the start of World Orienteering Week – get involved and find out about this brilliant and inclusive sport. For younger orienteers taking part in the Scottish Schools Orienteering Festival on Thurs 6 June, this taster is a good opportunity for some training, though under 16s must be shadowed by an adult given some road crossings.
Just turn up between 9.30-11am, outside the Oriam sports Hall (look out for our banners) and pick up a map for the introductory course (approx. 2km). There will be club orienteers around to get you started. All very welcome – bring your friends!

See you there!
