COURSES

Map will be to 1:4000 scale, on waterproof paper, with courses planned by Claire Ward.

No significant climb on any course. All courses suitable for unaccompanied Under-16s. The longer courses cross the road on the north of the campus but there are no weekend buses and traffic is very light.

Distances are 'straight-line' distance; you will likely need to run significantly further on the ground, up to 50% more.

Planned to Sports Governing Body standards. Maps will be printed on waterproof paper
White 1.3 km (straight-line distance) Controls (checkpoints) are very easy to find, mostly on main paths, ideal for younger children and complete beginners
Yellow 1.8 km (straight-line distance) Controls (checkpoints) are easy to find, mostly on or near main paths, ideal for older children and family groups
Orange 2.3 km (straight-line distance) Moderate, controls are on or near paths, with more route choice. Good for progressing juniors and beginner adults who are reasonably confident reading a map.
Red 4.1 km (straight-line distance)

Moderate, controls are on or near paths, with more route choice. Good for adult runners new to orienteering, providing a longer run than orange, at same level of navigational challenge.

Light Green 4.0 km (straight-line distance)

Suitable for orienteers with some experience

(Light) Blue TBC km (straight-line distance)

Longish course suitable for experienced orienteers

REGISTRATION, START AND FINISH

Assembly will be in the 'Walled Garden' beside the Oriam Centre (ParkRun start/finish). Start (300m) and finish (200m) are nearby. The routes to start / finish cross a road with some traffic including buses; there is a pedestrian crossing on the route back to the finish but juniors should be accompanied to the start.

Enquiries and registration will be open from 1pm, start times between 1:30 and 3pm.

Start times are not being allocated. Go to Start and queue for your course.

White and Yellow course maps will be available at enquiries.

Courses close at 4pm at which time controls will begin to be collected in.  Please start early if you think you may take a long time on your course.

Everyone must report to the finish and proceed to Download, whether they finish their courses or not. Otherwise you may trigger a search party and/or call to the emergency services!
