Vogrie Parkrun Takeover - Fun in the Sun
Club volunteers from Interlopers Orienteering Club and East Lothian Orienteers had a fun morning at Vogrie Country Park, supporting Vogrie parkrun with a volunteer Takeover, followed by an orienteering taster session for Parkrunners and others who fancied giving orienteering a go. In true Parkrun spirit the taster orienteering courses were on a free and just turn-up basis so a great opportunity to try out our amazing sport! A cold crisp morning and lovely weather to be outside enjoying the woods.
Colin did a sterling job as Run Director despite various ‘enthusiastic’ hounds waiting noisily for their run. The assembled crowd included some from Wales, and some Tourists completing their Parkrun alphabet quest - congratulations to John Morris. And congratulations to Sean Wilson, one of the Vogrie locals celebrating his highest finish position.
Many thanks Lorna for organising the courses and a campfire marshmallow-toasting, and of course to all the Interlopers and East Lothian Orienteers club members who turned out to help with marshalling and scanning for Parkrun plus chat with newcomers about orienteering at the taster session afterwards. It was great to see some enjoying their first course so much that they went off to do another after – yes, orienteering is highly addictive, and will this be one foot on the slippery slope for them? We’ll find out at future events! For more orienteering fun in the near future, sign up for the Festive Frolic orienteering event at Vogrie on Sat 28 December - see the ELO website for more information.
