Brand New Map for Craigmillar Castle Park - come to our launch event on 1st March

Come to our launch event on the afternoon of Saturday 1st March (starts 1 - 2:30pm), with something for everyone whether beginners or experienced competitors!  Entries are now open on RaceSignup ...

Our first event of the year is on Saturday 1st March and promises to be a cracker, with the launch of our brand new map.  A wide range of orienteering courses have been planned to make the most of its detail and give some good competition for regulars as well as an enjoyable introduction for newcomers.

There’s something for everyone with a choice spanning White for beginners (shortest and easiest) to Blue for more experienced orienteers wanting both distance and navigational challenge.  As well as options suitable for juniors and families, there’s a Red course (longer but easier) which gives a good option for adult newcomers looking for a bit of distance for their run or walk.  In addition to Light Green and Green, there’s a Short Green course for those wanting technical challenge but less distance.  Full details are available on our event webpage..

The Park was completely re-mapped for us this winter by Alastair Pedley and this will be its first outing so don’t miss out!  As well as providing a high quality map for events and competitions, it will be very useful for training purposes. It’s also the base for a new set of permanent orienteering course maps which will be published this spring following a re-design. New posts are now being installed with the help of Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust and their YouthBuild team who have been doing great work.  Look out for more details on the new courses soon, or for more information contact us via development@interlopers.org.uk.

Entries are open NOW:

Sign up to Craigmillar Castle Park Local Event (Come-and-Try-It)

Initial entries close at midnight on Monday 24th February. We will then order maps, and reopen entries with a limited number of further maps available.  A small number of extra maps will be printed and available on a first come first served basis on the day.

We’re keen to encourage newcomers to try out orienteering so bring along your friends, colleagues and families.  Everyone is very welcome and it’s a great place for a fun afternoon out.

In addition to enjoying some orienteering, kids can enjoy the amazing adventure playground afterwards too of course. Or explore Craigmillar Castle, and for those who like a treasure-hunt, they currently have a lot of little yellow ducks hidden around to find as a bonus! If you’d rather have a cup of tea, visit the Bridgend Farmhouse café.

Many thanks to planner Mike Stewart, controller Dave Kershaw, organiser Colin Ledlie and coordinator William Ivory.  Thanks too to the City of Edinburgh Council for permission to hold this event.

We look forward to seeing you for some enjoyable orienteering on the afternoon of Saturday 1 March!
